At 595m, the sixth hole is the longest in Sri Lanka, and has a river running through the middle of it to add tropical spice. The course is hilly so that over each rise, players are treated to a new stunning view of the natural surroundings – all at 1,950m above sea level. In the verandah or atmospheric wooden colonial-style bar of the club, you will meet local golfers able to tell you more about Nuwara Eliya. Modest accommodation is available. When it gets especially chilly in the evenings, staff light a log fire, adding to the magic of this venerable institution. All year round the climate is pleasant in Nuwara Eliya, a perfect first stop on any golfer’s tour.
