The Dehiwala National Zoo, which has a remarkable collection of exotic and indigenous fauna, is one of the oldest Zoos in Asia. The Zoo in Sri Lanka is widely known as Colombo zoo all over the world. Currently, Dehiwala Zoo houses 72 species of Mammals, 65 species of Birds, 31 species of Reptiles, 89 species of Fish, 03 families of Amphibians and 30 species of Butterflies etc. The total number of animals varies from 2500-3000 due to breeding and free living colonies of birds. Dehiwala Zoo has become famous among the visitors not only for collection of local and exotic animals but also for landscaping with lush greeneries. The Zoo supports and promotes conservation by breeding certain rare and endangered species through proper animal welfare.

The Viharamahadevi Park, originally named as ‘Victoria Park’ after Queen Victoria, is a public park situated in front of the Town Hall building in Colombo. The park was renamed in 1958 after the Queen Viharamahadevi, the mother of King Dutumagmu who believed to be one of the greatest kings in the Sri Lankan history.Although surrounded by busy roads and buildings in Cinnamon gardens in Colombo, Viharamahadevi park is a lovely patch of greenery and ideal for fun games, gatherings, sun bathing and for many more. The park has a huge Buddha statue, series of water fountains, a mini zoo and a children’s play area.

Galle Face Green

Galle Face Green

The Galle Face is a five hectare ocean side urban park, which stretches for a half kilometer along the coast, in the heart of the financial and business district of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The promenade was initially laid out in 1859 by Governor Sir Henry George Ward, although the original Galle Face Green extended over a much larger area than is seen today. The Galle Face Green was initially used for horse racing and as a golf course, but was also used for cricket, polo, football, tennis and rugby.
