Kandy

Kandy is one of the scenic and beautiful cities, located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is the second largest city in the country next to Colombo. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.

Udawatta Jungle or the Royal Forest Park of Kandy is situated on the hillside behind the Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Tooth Relic. This forest extents about 257 acres and is considered to be a vital Bio reserve for the much populated Kandy City. During the Kandyan Kingdom, The pond in the heart of the jungle was the place where queens in the past bathed and used as their pleasure garden. The Queen Victroia Park is located by the Nuwara Eliya City center and one of the must visit attraction. This park was name to commemorate the 60th Jubilee Coronation of Queen Victoria in the year 1897. The park covers 27 acres of land. Victoria Park is a place to relax and enjoy the natural sights and clean mountain air. This place is famous for bird watching and there are large verities of plants and trees available. Haggala Botanic Gardens, about 28 hectares in extent, lie under the shadow of the Hakgala Rock. Gregory Lake was build under the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873. This is the most prominent attraction in Nuwara Eliya and all the visitors used to come here and spent some time by the lake and relax. This was used as a place for water sports and for re-recreational activities during the British time. Gregory lake gets crowded during the April tourist season.

Kithulgala

Kithulgala

Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rain forest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in the country. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the year, especially in February, the driest month. The Academy Award-winning The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge (and, supposedly, the submerged train cars that plunged into the river in the climactic scene). Kitulgala is also a base for white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometres upstream.
